The Netflix ad-supported plan launches today for $7 a month. Unfortunately, it caps playback at 720p and doesn’t let you stream certain shows or movies. And as 9to5Mac notes, you can’t stream a Netflix with Ads membership on an Apple TV box. At least, not yet.

This odd discrepancy is mentioned in Netflix’s Help Center. However, Netflix hasn’t explained why its ad-supported plan doesn’t work on Apple TV. Our best guess is that Apple is to blame—maybe it wants a cut of ad revenue, or maybe it refuses to certify an app update. You know, typical Apple stuff.

Anyway, shortly after 9to5Mac published its story, Netflix reached out to clarify that its ad-support plan will work on Apple TV “soon.” I should also mention that Netflix with Ads works on iPhones and iPads running iOS/iPadOS 15 or later.

In case you missed it, Netflix’s excessive price hikes bit back earlier this year. The company lost a large number of subscribers (along with some market value). The new ad-supported plan, which costs $7 a month is supposed to solve this problem and reduce the impact…
